Full Transparency: How We Edit Photos
Some big news in Norway dropped recently, let’s talk about it.
If you missed it, legislators in Norway have announced new regulations that will make it a legal requirement for influencers and advertisers to label images that have been retouched or have filters to address “body pressure in society.” The department felt the current culture was creating a “social insecurity” and contributing to low-self esteem. The release states that the law passed in a 72–15 vote and will require that advertising and sponsored posts where “a body’s shape, size or skin has been changed by retouching or other manipulation” be clearly marked to declare that it has been edited. Failure to comply will result in a fine.
The pressures to look polished and perfect (many of you know my journey with disordered eating and body image) are huge in our society but we aren’t saying the antidote is to be raw all the time because BLESS the artist who created filters for those non-makeup days – they have a time and place!
All that said, both sides are important and it is hard to balance how much is too much, how to convey it to the younger generations while making sure we aren’t creating more problems with platforms designed to bring JOY.
It also adds an interesting twist in the photography field since photos are often retouched and custom presets are added even for the most natural-focused photographers (like us!)
Because of that we want to share how WE edit at Comeplum.
Yup, full disclosure, full transparency.
Here’s some insight:
Our photographers’ skill are expressed before, during, and after the photoshoot.
It’s all about active listening, it’s how we can collaborate with you to bring out your vision
We aim to make you feel at ease, to pull out the organic you, all while keeping an eye out for the most endearing moments.
We like to keep our edits as natural as possible but we take out distractions that take away from the key message of the photo. We do this most often in our headshots by smoothing the skin, brightening the eyes & teeth, and taking away flyaway hairs.
A photo of ‘after’, ‘before’, ‘a video of how’, AND beautiful no matter what.
