John & Sharon’s San Francisco Ethical Wedding at Stable Cafe
Lemme give you the true dish: because I have mostly known the couple for less time than most of their guests, one of my favorite parts of a wedding is listening to the custom vows that couples write to each other. That moment happened at Sharon and John’s San Francisco ethical wedding at Stable Cafe, and it did not disappoint.
These two talked about the high standards they had for life partners: active, kind, ambitious, optimistic, and how they found it in each other. Their friends & family said they were doubtful if they would find their partners who would meet their expectations but loved that they fo sho did.
In their ceremony I learned that these two have a ritual called Sunday Standups, weekly check-ins to make sure that they’re accomplishing their goals.
I love lists and check-ins! When I went home after their ethical wedding in San Francisco at my favorite neighborhood venue, the Stable Cafe, I made a new note on my phone called “adulting” and listed out some life goals and also listed out 25+ high-expectation goals in a life partner, haha. I feel like I struck gold surrounding myself with these go-getters.
I’m going to start an informal thing for my Ethical Weddings project and call it the Green Light Awards for exemplary couples using their wedding to change the world. The first ???????? goes to Sharon and John because in addition to donating to two of their favorite charities in honor of their wedding, Because Justice Matters, a local non-profit in the Tenderloin teaching girls leadership skills and instilling confidence through the medium of dance, and MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies), a medical research and education organization, they also used sustainable options.
Their San Francisco ethical wedding featured floral confetti instead of paper, palm leaf plates instead of plastic, local, in-season florals put together by AmpersandSF, and they supported a local dressmaker, Lace and Liberty. They embody the Ethical Weddings mission through and through. #fangirling.
Sharon, at her & John’s civil ceremony at City Hall the day before, wore Lululemon white tights underneath her wedding gown because she ain’t no fool about the principal of layering when it comes to mornings in SF ❄️My kind of girl! Which also reminded me: does anyone else remember the New Girl episode where she is at a wedding and is wearing neon bike shorts underneath her dress? Raise your hand if you also ROTFLOL’d. ????????♀️
