Keep reading to learn what a niche is, why it’s so important, as well as, the 3 things all great personal brands know are so that you can apply them to your own business!
Why is it so important to find a niche?
- There are so many options in the world and finding your niche will help you find what sets you apart and stand out in a crowd.
- It allows you to connect with consumers, clients, and customers in a more authentic way.
What is a niche?
- It’s a magical thing that happens when you figure out:
1) What your skills are
2) What your passions are
3) What your audience needs
4) What the world needs
and how you can find yourself in the middle.
- After you find your niche, you can then build out your personal brand and connect with people in a more authentic way.
How can we practically apply our niche?
- First, once you have figured out what you can offer, you can have a clearer understanding of who your audience is.
- After you find your audience, get to know them. Find out what their needs are and how you can meet them.
- It’s super helpful to talk with those people in order to do some market research to ensure you are truly providing for them what they need.
1. Find your target audience
- Q: Is your audience who you are already happened to be serving or should we set out for a more specific dream audience?
A: You can absolutely do both.
- It’s not necessary to have only one audience group, so long as you have a clear understanding of what your different audience groups are.
- Remember: Your audience can change and evolve as time goes on.
- A great place to start is by seeing who naturally reaches out to you.
2. Find your Unique Selling Point
- Basically, your USP is the thing that makes you stand out from the rest of the crowd.
- Find out what is unique and authentic to you. This will help you separate yourself from all the virtual “noise” that is out there.
- Keep in mind that you can utilize your background here, too.
- Pro-tip: Ask friends and family for personal testimonies of how they would describe your strengths as well as your weaknesses.
3. Create your mission statement
- A mission statement explains why you are doing what you are doing.
- It’s very important to get to the heart of the “why” behind a mission statement regardless of if you provide a service or are a product-based business.
- You can get a good foundation on your mission statement by starting with what your values are, both personally and for your brand.
- Keep in mind that coming up with a mission statement is not something you need to figure out alone. It is a great idea to bring other’s on board during this process.
- A good mission statement will help you show up in the world. It will help you understand what you should be saying “yes” and “no” to.
Once you know your target audience, your USP and have a mission statement… what’s next?
After you have found who you want to serve, how you can uniquely serve them and what your why is, then congratulations, you are in a wonderful place! Once you have all of those things figured out, that creates a sort of “secret sauce” that makes it possible to bring your brand to life online, in your community, or wherever you need to.
